12/04/2010 -  VINITALY - WINE AND SOCIAL NETWORKS
Growing role for Internet and social networks in the future of wine: a full-scale boom for web sites, blogs, portals and Facebook pages ... for increasingly direct communication between cellars and wine lovers. The transparency of sources is a problem but one which can be overcome; Vinitaly launches ideas for shared rules.

Analysis of out-of-home consumption detailing the four-year period 2006-2009 indicates a downturn for all drinks, while quality wine, Italian bubbles and sparkling wine go against the trend. First place in out-of-home consumption goes to central Italy, followed by the north-west, north-east and south/islands.

08/04/2010 -  ITALIAN WINE AND THE 2009 CRISIS
Market research by Axiter-ConfCommercio/Unicab for Vinitaly indicates the Italian wine cellars withstood the test of the “great crisis” in 2009 and even organised themselves to continue growth in 2010. Exports and investments were both up again. Weak points include mark-ups along the value chain, poor managerial culture and the under-sizing of cellars
